Firstly I guess because I was asked to (or invited to) by my university. They thought it was a good idea. But I accepted because I was actually curious about how it would work and what it would be like. Its a new experience for me, and I generally like to take the opportunity to do new things. I also think it is a novel approach to generating interest in science in teenagers. We need more scientists, especially in agriculture if we are going to feed the population in 30 years, so anything that may encourage young people into agriculture is well worth doing.
Because I’m not famous enough to be invited to go on ‘I’m a Celebrity…’ so this is the next best thing!
And also, I love teaching and getting students interested and enthusiastic about the stuff I work on.
