      hi zoeportman

My background is soil science and I am very interested in the geosciences. I find it fascinating how the earth has evolved over time.
Most agricultural production takes place on farms that themselves are part of the landscape. We have to understand the landscape in which a farm is located to understand the production on the farm – how the soils were formed, how water (soil water) moves through the landscape etc. As well there is a lot of geophysics in the sensors I use (like the soil maps on my homepage that were made with geo-physical sensors)

      Hi zoeportman

Yes, I really enjoyed Earth Sciences when studying for my degree. I found plate tectonics to be absolutely fascinating and loved the videos showing how much the continents have moved apart. The other thing I remember most from our trips was a visit to a bog that we were allowed to walk on. It was really bouncy and a totally weird experience.
