      It comes from latin to mean ‘knowledge’. (High school latin actually came in useful!)

      Science is indeed from Latin.
      In the early days it used to refer to a body of knowledge. Nowadays, it is applied more to the way knowledge is collected, rather than just the knowledge itself.
