      Hi bilbobaggins
We are still evolving. As humans we may have altered the rate at which natural selection is happening by finding cures for diseases, but there are other factors involved. It may feel like we are not evolving much because everything around us is happening so fast, like advances in technology, but in the background evolution is still occurring.

We don’t evolved from monkeys, or not the modern monkeys. We have a common ancestor, now extinct. And before that, we have a common ancestor with all the mammals, with all the vertebrates and so on. We will very likely evolve into something else. Natural selection is not as strong, specially in developed countries, as diseases are far less severe than a century ago. But that can change, as disease outbreaks can affect the world population. Also, there is still sexual selection working (most of the humans who reproduce decide with who they do).

If you can wait long enough then you will see it (1000s of years probably). Evolution is on-going but usually in response to niche environments (and environmental change). Sine we are now a global species with no fixed environment it will be interesting how the race as a whole evolves, but we will.
