      Hi n17tom

We’re still learning about the technologies for manipulating genes. It’s only recently that we have started to get DNA sequence data from whole genomes so we now have an idea how many genes they have in a species. But we still don’t know what most of these genes do. At the moment we tend to manipulate one gene at a time to see if we can work out what its for. Most of our experiments are focused on finding out about particular genes rather than making ‘designer plants’.
