• Question: whats the most interesting result you have gotten from switching plant genes?

      I don’t work in this area. I prefer the options for intormation technology rather than biotechnology to try to improve our production systems. GE and GMO still worries me a bit

      One of the first genes I ever put into plants was the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from jellyfish. It glows bright green under ultraviolet (UV) light in the cells so you can see exactly where the gene is switched on in a plant.

      Sometimes we join GFP on to another gene and they will stay together in the plant cells so when we see GFP we know the other gene is there even if we can’t see it.

      There are other bright fluorescent colours that we use like Red, Orange, Yellow.
