      It goes back to the late 1990s when Environmental Groups decided to start campaigning against GM foods. Because they got loads of media coverage they were able to get a lot of the general public on their side, mainly because the public didn’t understand the issues.
      Nowadays, the general public are much more informed and have a better understanding of the science behind GM technology. It is becoming more and more acceptable to the general public, but politicians are still wary of losing votes by making a stand for GM.
      One of the leaders in the anti-GM movement has now come out and apologised for his part in promoting a ban on GM. It’s a very interesting story, have a read:
